About a Dog A Bluff Point Romance Jenn McKinlay 9780399584718 Books
Mackenzie “Mac” Harris returns to her hometown of Bluff Point, Maine, seven years after being dumped at the alter and having a one night stand with her bff’s younger brother. She’s in town for two weeks max, to see her bff get married, and maybe lay the ghosts of the past to rest. Mix in the now-handsome one night stand who is now a veterinarian, and a stray puppy, Mac’s life is about to get much more complicated than surviving a two week vacation.I struggled with this book at first. Huge fan of Jenn McKinlay’s other series, but this one was a slow starter for me. I’m not a big fan of chick lit, and I knew going in there wouldn’t be much mystery, but I read this anyway because of my affection for her other work. At first I thought, yeah, yeah, yeah, been there, read that. Enter Tulip, a pit-bull mix, and things suddenly got a lot more interesting. I had to finish to find out what happens to the dog.
While this was initially slow for me, I have to say it’s well-written, with laugh-out-loud funny, snappy dialogue, interesting characters and a great setting. I was just kind of meh, until Tulip shows up. Then I had something to hold my interest. There are some detailed sex scenes, which I didn’t really care for, so just paged past – at this age, I don’t need to know what tab A is doing with slot B. Just knowing that they are getting busy is enough – makes the story more realistic. I did enjoyed watching Mac make peace with her past, and figuring out her relationship with Gavin, the veterinarian. The ending was very satisfying and, while this kind of book generally isn’t my cup of tea, I think I’m picking up book no. 2 at least. Got to find out what happens next with Mac, Gavin, and Tulip.
PS, do check out McKinlay’s other series (the Cupcake Bakery Mysteries, and A Library Lover’s Mysteries). Well worth reading.

About a Dog A Bluff Point Romance Jenn McKinlay 9780399584718 Books Reviews
A contemporary romance set in Maine surrounding four good friends reuniting for a wedding. This wedding party will spend two weeks in preparations, dealing with the past, and embracing the future.
The characters are very likable and the dialog edgy and modern. Thrown in for extra flavor is a delicious Veterinarian and adorable puppy.
I'm purposely keeping this review vague as I want the book to deliver it's own impact to the reader. Enjoy!
I generally do not read romances, but I love Jenn McKinlay's cozy mysteries, so I decided to read About a Dog. I loved it! It's funny, sassy, and a bit steamy, plus it has some quirky characters that McKinlay is so good at developing. Plus, it has a dog! If romance isn't your usual genre, try this one. If it is, don't pass it up!
I really enjoyed Jenn McKinley's foray into romantic comedy! I am familiar with her writing from her multiple cozy mystery series. If you have read anything by this author you know that she has an incredible sense of humor and it is evident in this book, I also enjoy her ability to describe great friendships, there are always great friends in her books and the crew in About A Dog makes you want to be part of the group, add in a sweet puppy and a coming home story and you have a fun read!!!!!
A new series for Jenn McKinlay and I love it! can't wait for the next installment to come out. The only reason I didn't finish it in one day is that I had housework and laundry to do -- otherwise couldn't put it down. A story of 4 best friends who come together for a wedding and how the maid of honor deals with her past with the bride's younger brother. Engaging, funny, tender. 10+
I fell in love with this funny, hilarious and at times tearful love stories between both humans and a delightful dog named Tulip. The title About a Dog is so perfect for this book and I was enchanted with each and every character both two-footed and four-footed. The story grabbed me from the first page and by the fourth page I was laughing so hard my sides hurt; the laughter and at times tears continued to the end. I felt like I had known the friends portrayed in this story all my life and had been involved with and enjoyed all their escapades throughout the years. This is a must read for anyone who loves to read. Jenn McKinlay has written a beautiful and exceptional book and I can hardly wait until the next book in the series is published and released.
I love Jenn McKinlay's cozy mysteries, but was very disappointed by this book. I was looking forward to this romance series, but will not be reading anymore of the books after this one. The characters were juvenile and the sex scenes were vulgar. I think I will stick with her cozies from now on.
With warm, funny main characters and secondary characters and a quick-paced plot line, Jenn McKinlay has given her readers another wonderful world that we can sink into and enjoy. As an avid fan of her previous series, the Library Lover's Mysteries, the Cupcake Bakery Mysteries, and the Hat Shop Mysteries, I was excited to see what characters she would introduce us to with this new series and a romance genre too! There's something about a romance that draws the heart strings and Ms. McKinlay does an excellent job of creating the right amount of conflict, desire, and problems between her leading lady and gentleman. The whole ensemble of friends feels very similar to how people interact with their own "ride or die" friends and the lead character Mac has two aunts who remind us of the importance of living in the moment and trying new things. I'm excited to see what happens in the next book in the series. I loved Carly in "About A Dog" and can't wait to see what this feisty underwear buyer gets up to in Bluff Point.
